Territorial division of Poland

Territorial division of Poland has been changing over the years. The last one has been constituted in 1999. There are 16 provinces in Poland, 379 smaller districts and 2478 municipalities.

The provinces and their capitals are:

South

Lubelskie - Lublin

Podkarpackie - Rzeszów

Świętokrzyskie - Kielce

Małopolskie - Kraków

Śląskie - Katowice

Opolskie - Opole

Dolnośląskie - Wrocław

Central

Lubuskie -Gorzów Wielkopolski

Wielkopolskie - Poznań

Łódzkie - Łódź

Mazowieckie - Warszawa

North

Podlaskie - Białystok,

Warmińsko-Mazurskie - Olsztyn

Kujawsko-Pomorskie - Bydgoszcz

Pomorskie - Gdańsk

Zachodniopomorskie - Szczecin

The most important geographical regions are: Pomerania, Masuria, Wielkopolska, Mazowsze, Podlasie, Silesia, Małopolska and Podkarpacie.

The most important tourist districts are Baltic Seacoast, Musuria Lake District and mountains region in the south.
