Jedną z osobliwych atrakcji Budapesztu są kawiarnie w kinach. Przy czym nie mamy tu na myśli skromnego bufeciku z popcornem albo sieciowego barku. Nie, są to kawiarnie pełną gębą. Jedna z nich to Uránia Kávéház mieszcząca się na pierwszym piętrze budynku Uránia National FilmTheatre. Nazwa ta pochodzi od Towarzystwa Naukowego Uránia, które w latach 20. ubiegłego wieku organizowało tu pokazy ruchomych obrazów. Dziś jest to jedno z najbardziej klimatycznych wnętrz w stolicy Węgier. Filmowe - można by nawet powiedzieć. Wspaniała widownia na 543 miejsca i foyer z rzeźbionymi filarami, lustrami, pełne weneckich i mauretańskich motywów budzą uczucie nieujarzmionej zazdrości, zwłaszcza na wspomnienie polskich zunifikowanych, plastykowych multipleksów. A sama kawiarnia? Piękne, wzorzyste niebieskie tapety, ściany bogato zdobione złotem, fantastyczne zabytkowe żyrandole i bogato zdobiony sufit nadają jej nieco orientalny klimat. Stolików jak na tak dużą przestrzeń niewiele, nie będziemy zmuszeni zaglądać sąsiadowi do filiżanki. Specjalnością zakładu jest - rzecz jasna - kawa, bardzo ceniona w fachowych kręgach ze względu na jakość i sposób podania. Dla cierpiących na nadciśnienie kilka gatunków butelkowego piwa. Koniecznie. Chociaż na chwilę.

One of Budapest's quirkier attractions are cafes set in cinemas. No, we are not talking about a small popcorn booth or bar. We mean real, regular cafes. One such place is the Urania Kavehaz, located on the first floor of the Urania National Film Theatre building. The name comes from the Urania Scientific Society, which would organisemotion picture screenings here, way back in the 1920s. Today, this interior boasts perhaps the best ambiance in Hungary's capital. One might even say that it is something straight out of a movie script. The splendid auditoriumfor 543 persons and foyer space with carved pillars, mirrors, Venetian and Moorish motifs instill a feeling of pure jealousy, especially when compared to the identical, plastic multiplexes in Poland. And what about the cafe? Beautiful blue wallpaper, golden decorated walls, fantastic antique chandeliers and a richly decorated ceiling give it a slightly oriental look. There are not too many tables, considering the large space, so we will not be forced to look into the neighbouring client's coffee cup. The local speciality is of course coffee, applauded by aficionados for its quality and method of serving. Those of you who suffer from hypertension can choose from several types of bottled beer. Make sure to drop by, even if only for a short while.

Słynna uliczka antykwariatów. Znajdziecie tu ponad 50 sklepów i galerii wypełnionych po brzegi meblami, biżuterią, ceramiką, tkaninami i innymi skarbami różnego pochodzenia, wieku i wartości. Doprawdy nie sposób oderwać oczu od niektórych wystaw, a decyzja o przekroczeniu progu jednego z tych przybytków grozić może fatalnymi konsekwencjami dla naszego - albo cudzego - portfela. Gdyby jednak ktoś chciał się mimo wszystko zdecydować na ten ryzykowny krok, dajemy teraz kilka adresów... I tak: Pod numerem 14 w Elite Design i pod 28 w Antik Zsolnay zgromadzono fantastyczny zbiór ceramiki Zsolnay, w tym wzory z lat 60. i 70. W Montparnasse pod 17 czeka na was kolekcja mebli art déco, a we Wladis Gallery - to bynajmniej nie pechowy w tym wypadku numer 13 - współczesna srebrna biżuteria. Nieco dalej, bo pod 30, w Virág Judit Galéria zobaczycie natomiast węgierskie malarstwo z XIX i XX wieku. A gdyby i to było mało, polecamy jeszcze Anna Antikvitás pod 18, z wyborem ręcznie haftowanych tkanin, i Bardoni Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Kft. (nr 12) pełen mebli i przedmiotów dekoracyjnych z okresu art nouveau, bauhaus i art déco. Galerię BÁV (21) z zegarkami, starym złotem i srebrną biżuterią też polecamy. I Dárius Antiques (24-26) z meblami biedermeier też. I tu się może już zatrzymamy... Chociaż niechętnie...

A famous street full of antique dealers, with over 50 shops and galleries filled to the brim with furniture, jewellery, ceramics, textiles and a smorgasbord of treasures varying in origin, age and value. Some of the exhibits are breathtaking, while the decision to cross threshold of some stores can have disastrous consequences for your - or someone else's - wallet. However, if you are ready to take this risky step, here are a few handy addresses. Elite Design (street no. 14) and Antik Zsolnay (no. 28) stock great collections of Zsolnay ceramics, including designs from the 60s and 70s. Montparnasse (no. 17) has a broad selection of Art Deco furniture, while Wladis Gallery - located at no. 13, particularly lucky in this case - sells contemporary silver jewellery. A little further down, by no. 30 at the Virág Judit Galeria you can inspect Hungarian paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. If this were not enough, we recommend you visit Anna Antikvitas (no. 18), which specializes in hand-embroidered fabrics and Bardoni Kereskedelmi és Kft Szolgáltató (no. 12), full of furniture and decorative pieces dating back to the Art Nouveau, Bauhaus and Art Deco periods.
